Once, during my study in college, some political actions took place due to the death of the college's founder. One of the many unpleasant results of the political play was that one department in the college had to be shut down. That department happened to be where I was. We were final year college students, I and my eleven class mates. It was never easy getting there due to the cost we had to bear, the efforst had to make and the perseverance we had to maintain. Yet at that time, our dreams came crashing down just like the sound of the slamming door.

One of the best lecturers in the department was 'let go'. He knew how devastated we were yet he had to say something before we parted. The following was his speech, rather reconstructed and rephrased in my mind:

"I came from a country where civil war happens everyday. I could hear gunshots every time I sleep and every time I wake up. I had several close relatives end up dead without proper burials. I had to cling for my life every second I am outside of my house because death is so close to me. My love diminishes, my hope perishes, my faith is shaking ..."

Most of us were nailed to his speech, not really knowing why he said all these. He continued,

"As a man, who had gone through all these, I can only advise you all to enjoy and this rather discouraging moment. Savour the sensation and make it your strength. For you can't experience this moment anytime you want. Even if you are willing, you will never be able to recreate the same atmosphere and feeling. So once again, make it your strength and strengthen others, just like how I am strengthening you all now. For this is not the end."

That was 6 years ago and I am still wondering where on earth could he get that kind of strength. I am still wondering if he is even a Christian. One thing I learnt is that even if he is not, God's common grace was in fact enough to sustain him. More so to us, believers who had been cleansed by the Son's blood.

I am so glad to read such honesty from you. From the way I see it, you should be the one singing the song for others, for you already are a strong one.

We are lucky that God loves us that much!!! If it were by our doing or deserving we would be in serious trouble... It hurts sometimes to look in the mirror and know that we are not worthy. Keep your eyes on him, for what is impossible for man is possible with God. Thanks for the heart to heart. visit me sometime at http://unitedchristiancoalition.wordpress.com/2009/09/11/christian-unity-defeats-world-problems/
May the Lord wrap his loving arms around you and give you comfort and peace.

hi there, I'm glad to see your reply :)

Then I thought I would just try to accept that there was a god, not question why this happened or why that happened, just trust that god was there.

I believe this is what we call "Faith".
If you don't mind me quoting St. Augustine who once said

Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.

Whoever you are, I will pray for you, because the faith doesn't stop there, it has to continually be reformed, step by step.

I'll be around if you need someone to talk to ;)
